The most tiring Medical-Dental Mission have just concluded for the February 2011 Medical-Dental Mission at Sitios Lanipew and Culliang of Barangay Tacadang in Kibungan, Benguet. The event was held on February 18 to 20, 2011.
The BeGHC team departed from La Trinidad, Benguet at 3:20 AM and headed to Moling, Bakun, Benguet where the end of the road and the start of the trek begins. Around 7:00 AM the team arrived in Moling and prepared for hike through a hearty meal of chicken noodle soup with eggs, hotdogs and bread with butter or butter with bread as others would say.
Eating together as a team was a great adventure in itself alone. With the sunrise shining brightly giving everyone a glow and laughing and telling jokes with each other, and even teasing one another, everyone did enjoy the breakfast with full stomach ready for the trek.
At last breakfast is over and everyone packed their own "baon" for lunch along the way. It was already about 9:00 AM when the team left the starting point. The ray of the sun's heat is already felt by the body. The star of the ascent had begun. Walking slowly and cheerfully, everyone enjoyed the view from along the foot trail's scenes. Rocks and mountains are astonishing. Great is our Creator in Heaven who made all these beautiful things in the world.
It was almost twelve o'clock noon and the first group from the team awaited each other for lunch. Two hotdogs and one egg for lunch! Well, everyone is laughing at the "baon", and others even commented, "Why not 1 hotdog and 2 eggs?", everyone laughed for another moment.
Tired and warmed feet, the trek started again. Now the trail is downhill. The first group went ahead leading the trek down the mossy forrest. Rocks and soil combined with mosses and water made the trail more slippery. Albeit all those things, the team managed to pass the trail even with some butt bumps.
Mossy forrest has passed. Foggy grassy downhill trail is on its way, with still some hardened and sippery soil to pass thru. Sound of a rushing waterfall can be heard. The first group went to scout their way down to the small creek. Most of the group slowed pace during the descent thru the grassy mountain due to unsure road. Some even went back for 50 meters. Gladly it was still daylight when everyone passed the grassy foot of the mountain and nobody got lost.
First group arrived at Lanipew at around 2:20 PM. Second group came 3:30 PM and followed by third and fourth group at around 4:40 PM and 6:00 PM respectively.
Faces of exhaustion from trek yet feelings of relief and joy glowed from BeGHC team are seen on their faces after the 6 to 8 hours of hike from Moling, Bakun, Benguet. The local folks offered lemon grass tea and homemade taro and sweet potato in "puto" shape for energy boosters. Everybody was really happy for the success of the accomplishments made for the time being.
Rest rest rest! Preparation for the morrow's Medical-Dental Mission event...
